i joined Pinterest a month or two ago but was not able to maximize due to small users in my community. However, yesterday, glad to see more users getting into it. People can not help but ask whether this will affect Tumblr usage.

i think not as Pinterest users tend be more content sharers, curators in a sense, grouping content discovered accordingly.

Tumblr is more emotional. We marvel, laugh, cry, have fun in this space. The more truthful you become in sharing content that touches, people naturally connect in the process.
